"YELLOW LAGOON"
Description: It is a beautiful place full of magic and good vibes, in where you can see many beautiful landscapes and share with the nature.
Location: This place is located in Ecuador country, Chimborazo Province, Penipe Town and La Candelaria Little Town (The entrance).
History: Many years ago, this volcano was considerated as one of highest in the Ecuador Country. The Altar volcano was active about 2 million years ago and had an open boiler to the west, which had a lake called Yellow Lagoon.
This volcano had an eruption in the year 2000 and caused many deaths. On October 13, 2000, due to the eruption, there was a large rock slide, which caused the death of 13 people who lived in that area.
Volcano: Altar is an extinct volcano, with a high of 5320 m.o.s.l. This volcano has the following peaks:
1.-Obispo (Bishop) - 5320 m.o.s.l / 17,451 ft.
2.-Canónigo (Canon) 5260 m.o.s.l /17,257 ft.
3.-Fraile Grande (Great Friar) 5180 m.o.s.l /16,995 ft.
4.-Tabernáculo (Tabernacle) - 5180 m.o.s.l /16,995 ft.
5.-Monja Grande (Great Nun) - 5160 m.o.s.l /16,929 ft.
6.-Monja Chica (Small Nun) - 5080 m.o.s.l /16,667 ft.
7.-Fraile Central (Central Friar) 5070 m.o.s.l /16,634 ft.
8.-Fraile Oriental (Eastern Friar) -5060 m.o.s.l /16,601 ft.
9.-Fraile Beato (Devout Friar) 5050 m.o.s.l /16,568 ft.
Where does the name Altar come from?
This volcano is known as Altar or also with the name of KAPAC URCU that in Kichwa Language meaning KAPAC: great, sublime, important and URCU: mountain, resulting in the name of SUBLIME MOUNTAIN.
